Timeline

Quinn Holm

I wrote Spring in Winter
I wrote Winter in Summer
and Fall somewhere in between
the changing weather

The nature in me has its own seasons
I’m not afraid of being forgotten
for my being needs no outside opinions
Things used-to-be and mistaken
no longer have a place in my present
Long gone was their influence on my emotions
I’m now loved and nurtured, every moment

The universe in me creates its own timeline
The inner reservoir in this child’s eyes
masters the healing and grows with pride
as my inner light shines through the night
things soon-to-be have now been realised
The hopes and dreams will soon be revived
in this serene world of my own divine
because it is the life of my own design.

(Outro)
When you lose what needs to be lost
It is actually a gain
You will see right through that pain
That once paralysed your mind
With the now blazing self-respect
Reflected in those eyes.

Write After with One Poem Only

Write After is a way to encourage poets to listen and write, and use National Poetry Month to highlight how listening to poetry makes us better poets. I know I write the best when I’m surrounded by beautiful poetry–it’s part of the reason I created this podcast, and I want to encourage others to share this practice. If you want to join: Listen to a poem from the month of April on One Poem Only, then write your own in response. I will pick one for each day to read in June for a special series: One Poem After 🍎🍏 Submissions close May 15.

About the Podcast

One Poem Only
I'm Maggie Devers, and each day I'll read you a poem-nothing more, nothing less. No analysis, no noise-just a little space to listen.
A daily reading. A quiet moment. One poem, center stage: just for now, just for you. A one-night-only show, in verse.

Come back tomorrow. The curtain rises again.
